Falling In Love

He checks his watch frantically inside the cab. Her train is scheduled to arrive in the next half n hour. The red signals at the traffic don’t help his anxiety either.

He made it to the station just on time to find the train was running late. Tired and hungry after the day’s work, he waited for her train in the platform. He was going to see her after six months. She was going back to her workplace after a brief stay at home and had to cross his station to get there.

Finally, the moment he had been waiting for arrives as he heard the announcement for the train followed by the train chugging into the station coming to a halt.

There she was, standing near the door of the compartment she had mentioned, her eyes searching for him. And then she saw him, her eyes gleamed with excitement as she ran towards him to hug him. Awkward as always, he refused the hug and instead pulled her cheeks. She had cut her hair short and he had seen her in this look in the images she had shared on WhatsApp but seeing her for real was something else. Her new haircut made her look like Kajol from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and the Garfield on her tee made her look like a girl who was yet to finish her schooling.

Few minutes of chit-chat and the train’s horn blows.

She gets up the train and moves to her seat. They wave each other goodbyes through the glass windows.

The wheels of the train start rolling and so does he, initially walking briskly and then breaking into a jog making sure he doesn’t lose the sight of her, blabbering something not realising that the glass between them didn’t allow for his voice to reach her.

They could just see each other’s expressions, he saw her laughing and also the concern on her face seeing him behaving crazy and tried to suggest that she was not able to listen to what he was saying. He understood and broke into laughter as well.

The train picked up its pace and he could no longer keep up, watching her smiling face slowly fading. He almost stumbled but today he didn’t fall. It was roughly four years ago when he had fallen; fallen in love with her in their college days.

She had gone now and had a left a happy-sad feeling instead.

That night they texted each other, he wished her a safe journey, she wished him sweet dreams.

  1. And here I thought they would end up going on a date… Why? 😢

One advice though. Don’t write I’m one paragraph, unless the text is usper small. Try breaking it up into several paras so that the reader doesn’t tire and you can build interest in the story. 😊

      1. No, I just got bored. U see, I am the rule maker as well as the rule breaker. 😂
Came here to read few things before sleeping and didn’t expect any activity on my blog. But then it would have been rude if I didn’t reply after seeing the comment.

      2. Hey, I know you’re busy. I’m just slowly making time to read posts that I promised people, including you, that I would read. I know you’re busy, that’s why I won’t think it rude if you don’t reply. So just chill, buddy and work hard 🙂
